Why We All Love “Pretty Please I Don’t Want to Be A Magical Girl”

How do show love with punching up and lead pipes.

It’s a hard year to get into a new show. I am trying, for my sake, to try out new things and hope that they won’t fizzle out or get unceremoniously cancelled. But it would be nice to support an underdog.

Pretty, Pretty Please, I Don’t Want to Be a Magical Girl is an eleven-minute pilot animatic on YouTube. Creator Kiana Mai, an animation veteran, created the pilot and released it in February 2025 from her Kiana Khansmith account. Those eleven minutes have gone viral, especially with one scene getting the full animation treatment.

Star Guardian, Guardian of the Stars

Aika is starting at a new high school. She’s arriving on time, getting perfect scores on pop quizzes, and enjoying the “terrible” school lunches. Heck, she soon gains a friend in loner Zira, who struggles in class and spends all her time reading mahou shoujo manga. We soon learn she’s running away from a talking star named Hoshi (of course), and hiding from archnemeses.
