Why You Need A Strong Commitment To Your Goals If You Want To Succeed

Commitment is one of the key ingredients for goal-success. If you’re not fully committed to a goal, you won’t give it all the effort required to succeed.

When you’re not fully committed a goal — and most people aren’t — you give up too quickly, work with less determination, are more likely to procrastinate, and make more unproductive decisions.

Therefore, a lack of commitment is one of the most common reasons why people fail to achieve their goals. As Vince Lombardi said, “Most people fail not because of a lack of desire but because of a lack of commitment.”

Most People Falsely Think They Are Committed

Most people set goals and feel highly motivated for a few days, falsely assuming they’re committed to their goal.

After a few weeks, however, as the first obstacles arise or old habits kick in, they quickly lose motivation and start procrastinating on their goals. They were never really committed in the first place, they were just riding a temporary wave of motivation.

The desire for the outcome and the commitment to doing whatever it takes to achieve a goal are two completely different things. The first one is common, the second one much less.
