9 Tweets That Could Change How You Think About Things

Make Twitter great again

I’ll start by admitting that I love Twitter.

For all the crap it gets, I still find it a valuable medium to expose myself to ideas and people that I otherwise wouldn’t come across. I also try to do what I can to contribute in a productive and meaningful way. I actually enjoy the 140-character constraint; it makes me ask myself, what am I really trying to say? And perhaps not in spite but because of this, I often do my clearest and best thinking in tweets. (I know, it sounds ridiculous, but it’s true).

So, in the spirit of getting right to the point, here are 9 tweets that I’m glad I composed. Each one helped me to think about big ideas a bit differently. Hopefully they help you too.

  1. Making the hard choice today means you need to trust your future-self. Best way to trust future-self is past evidence. Willpower compounds.
  2. Sleep is one of the most productive things we can do. Anyone looking to “hack” their way to health who isn’t getting 7–9 hours should start there.
  3. The best goal is the simplest: get better. Those with the longest, healthiest careers DO care about results, but are not defined by them.
  4. We think multitasking makes us content because “we get so much done” (not really) but best way to be content is to give one thing your all.
  5. Few things are more gratifying than setting a goal on the outer boundary of what you think is possible and then systematically pursuing it.
  6. If you want to be good at whatever it is that you do you’ve GOT to care. The utmost expression of Quality is love.
  7. Perhaps we should strive not for “balance” in our lives but instead for the self-awareness required to honestly evaluate trade-offs.
  8. Pursue mastery: the goal is the path and the path is the goal.
  9. Stress + rest = growth. Too much of either is bad.
