Consume the Best to Be the Best

Being the best at what you do is a combination of skill and mindset; but if you aren’t fueling yourself with the best as well, you will never get there.

Being the “best” is often promoted as a goal or destination in life. The idea is spoken about often that you can just work hard at a skill day in and day out and eventually you will become the absolute best at that skill.

This is false…

The fact is that being the best in anything requires that you surrond yourself with the best of everything.

One of my favorite life coaches, Tony Robbins, teaches his students to attain a level of mastery over the four states of their life:

  • Mental state
  • Physical state
  • Emotional state
  • Financial state

He teaches that, by taking control over these states, one can achieve true success in their life.

To build on that, I believe that in order to take control and master those four states of your life, you need to surround yourself with the best the world has to offer…

The best quality and healthiest foods to provide fuel for your physical body and mental strength. The best friends and loved ones to provide emotional support. The best habits to create and maintain financial wealth.

Without the best of the best in your life, you will never be able to be the best.

True success comes from being in control of those four states. In order to gain control of those four states you need to fuel each aspect of yourself with the things it requires.

For example:

If you are the CEO of your organization, your goal would be to become the best CEO that you can be. In order to do this you would need a clear mental state, emotional control, and healthy financial habits.

If you want to have a clear mental state and emotional control, it first starts with being in the best physical shape that you can be in. In order to be in the best physical shape, you must have the best sources of fuel (food).

Additionally, in order to have a clear mental and emotional state, you would need to control the media that you digest. The things you see and read and pay attention to, they are the fuel for your mind and emotions. Watching reality shows and paying attention to celebrity gossip, while they can be entertaining, does not allow your mind to grow. In fact, it actually inhibits brain activity in some cases.

And finally, if you are unable to keep a clear mental state or emotional control, financial habits will fall apart.

By foregoing the best sources of fuel for your body, mind and emotions, you are destroying your chances at mastering your financial state.

In the short run, you may be able to gain a large amount of skill by focusing entirely on the actual practice with no concern for the other areas of your life. But when you look down the line, the potential you have will never fully be achieved.
