Author Eric Butterworth said that. It’s simple but powerful. And honestly, it’s true. Most people just go through life. They check the boxes — school, job, marriage, kids — and hope it works out. Sometimes they don’t even realise they’re just going through life. It’s subtle. You get up, go to work, scroll your phone, pay the bills, repeat.

You convince yourself that’s just how life works.

But you know something’s off. Sometimes you feel stuck. Numb. Like you’re sleepwalking through your own existence. That’s what going through life looks like.

But growing through life?

That’s a different path.

It can be uncomfortable but it stretches you. It forces you to face yourself — your patterns, your fears, your mistakes. Growth asks for more. It asks you to stop blaming other people.

Becoming something more is intentional.

Going through life means you let life happen to you. You react to events. And hope things turn out in your favour. You follow the path of least resistance because it’s easier than questioning it. You settle for comfort over deliberate self-evolution.

The wisdom of great minds. My essays cross between psychology, philosophy and self-improvement.
