How You Make People Feel Will Stay With Them Forever
Are you making people feel valued, understood, and cared for? Or are you leaving them feeling hurt or disrespected?
I don’t remember everything parents taught me. Not even the lessons they wanted to pass on to me and my siblings. But I know they’ve had a massive influence on my life.
But the one thing I keep going back to is how they made me feel.
The freedom they gave me to be myself. And how they never resisted my will to explore my curiosities. Memories of experiences (good and bad) become part of the stories we tell ourselves.
How we feel after any experience stays long after everything else is gone. Maya Angelou said something beautiful that explains how why we should be careful about the impressions we leave on others.
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,” she wrote.
Words are powerful. Actions are powerful.
But feelings?
Feelings are the most powerful force of all. They stay in our memories, drive our decisions, and define our experiences.
