Specialists have a special place in a rapidly changing world, i.e. if you are so good, they can’t ignore you.

Highly skilled people take a lot of time to master their craft. Think athletes, soccer players, outstanding golfers, doctors, tennis players, lawyers and engineers. You can’t become skilled any other way. There are no shortcuts.

Want to become the next Tiger Woods? You have to spend thousands of hours practicing your skill. And then practice more even when you become a top performer.

Specialisation is a hard and challenging goal. But it’s worth it if you get it right and maintain a learning habit. Once you get to the top, adapt, evolve and reinvent yourself.

The top 10 percent in almost every field get the biggest reward. Capitalism rewards rare and valuable skills.

If you’ve invested time and energy in becoming a specialist in your niche, learn to become super valuable. It’s hard, but if you pick timeless skills, you could become indispensable.

It almost always feels like the top is out of reach.
