Being alone scares most people. Not me. I use the time alone to find clarity. Maybe my three years at the minor seminary helped. The spiritual training there — the silence, the reflection, the discipline — changed me. It taught me to sit with myself, listen, and find stillness always. I didn’t realise it at the time. But those years redefined my perception of quiet time. I now have massive respect for self-awareness and solitude. When life feels overwhelming, I return to those lessons. The quiet. The introspection. The connection to something bigger than myself.
Maybe those three years didn’t just teach me about faith.
Maybe they taught me about myself. And maybe that’s the greatest gift of all. Time away from the noise forces me to face my fears and truth. And truth is uncomfortable. So some people avoid looking at themselves in the mirror. I use time alone to recover from my daily stressors. No distractions. Just me and my thoughts. An intentional practice.
