The Key To Daily Happiness

There’s one simple, tiny, basic, “duh” thing you can do to triple your happiness and most importantly, be happy consistently, every single day.

Ready? Here it is:

“Always have something to look forward to” — Tony Robbins

It doesn’t matter how small it is. Every single day there should be something you’re looking forward to doing in the not-too-distant future.

Here are some ideas to get you started…

Small Ideas

These help you make it from one day to the next and keep your happiness up. Aim to do one of these every day:

  • Watch the latest episode of your favorite show on Netflix tonight
  • Bookmark an interesting article so you can read it before bed
  • Read another chapter of that book you’re reading before bed
  • Eat out tonight at a random place you’ve never been to
  • Block out Sunday nights to watch the NBA games you missed during the week (my personal favorite)
  • Meet a friend tonight after work for a 🍺 or 🍸
  • Switch up your workout routine to something completely different
  • Switch up your commute to work (bike instead of car, etc)
  • Switch up your night routine (especially if you have kids)
  • Do all of your meetings as walking meetings
  • Stop using Instagram for a day (subconsciously comparing your life to the “celebrities” you see on there isn’t helping…)
  • Work from a cafe or co-working space
  • Time-box yourself to doing email no more than 30 mins per day
  • Have a no-meetings-on-Friday policy

Big Ideas

These help you get really happy (and excited) about something big that might take planning and other people to pull off. Aim for at least one of these every few months:

  • Plan an international holiday to somewhere you’ve always wanted to go
  • Arrange for your mum/dad/brother/sister to watch the kids for a few nights while you take your husband/wife and stay in a hotel
  • Rent an Airbnb in another city/state/country and work from there for a month
  • If you’ve always worked in an office, make your next job a role role
  • Start working nights on your startup / business idea
  • Sell your house and rent where you really want to live
  • Buy the car/watch/shoes you’ve always wanted (you only live once right?)

See, I told you this was simple stuff. But it works really well.
