The pressure to keep up is going nowhere. When everything feels chaotic, I apply the wisdom of Seijaku (a Japanese concept) to find calm. Seijaku means “tranquillity” or “serenity.”

Seijaku is “active calm”.

It’s a state of mind where you’re present, aware, and focused. It’s a way of being, a lifestyle for finding stillness. It “focuses not on escaping the hecticness of life entirely, but rather maintaining calmness and tranquility amidst a busy life; an “energized relaxation,” notes J-Life. Seijaku is a powerful way to affirm the power of the mind over everything that steals our inner peace.

Seijaku is acceptance.

Seijaku taught me that peace comes from acceptance — not surrender, but a deep acceptance of what is. Chaos exists. Challenges arise. Resisting these realities only creates more suffering. I accept them and focus on what I can do to improve my inner peace.

Seijaku teaches that calm doesn’t come from getting rid of chaos but from making peace with it. Chaos is a part of life — it’s inevitable. Instead of trying to avoid it, Seijaku helps you find calm within it. No one can control external experiences…
