What Should Young People Do With Their Lives Today?
The terrible disease of loneliness can be cured
I came across an article last week that left me wondering, “Is this a good thing, or a bad thing.”
Whenever I leave the house and venture out into public, I invariably see young people glued to their devices. In restaurants, coffee shops, and even at the movies. Their faces are illuminated by smartphone screens, seemingly transfixed as fingers scroll relentlessly through an ocean of videos, amusements, and distractions.
And then there are all the video games.
Young people today have no lack of online distractions to fill the hours, marooning them in their rooms like digital monastics. Of course, the adults aren’t far behind when it comes to YouTube benders and social media rabbit holes.
But if young people are the future, should we be concerned?
It was behind this backdrop of thoughts that I read an article about young people, mostly girls, who travel to Finland from all over the world to compete. They have costumes, judges, equipment, and even obstacle courses. Online videos of the competitions show the degree of athleticism and fitness required.
