A team huddle is an informal team gathering to keep everyone connected to the culture and business.

It’s a wonderful way to increase engagement and sense of belonging in the team.

Team huddles have been implemented in many successful teams and I really think you should try it.

This is how you can start a team huddle

1.Book a 30-minute huddle
Tell everyone in the team that you want to try something new; a huddle. The agenda is loose and no preparation is needed.

2.Anywhere but a conference room
To be clear, a weekly staff meeting in the company boardroom is not a huddle, it’s a staff meeting. Hold your huddle somewhere informal –the lobby, the kitchen, that back hallway. Anywhere but a conference room.

3.Keep a loose agenda
Some points to stick to:
• How are we doing as a team?
• What are you curious about right now?
• Announcements
• Celebrations (e.g. birthdays?)
• Cool things you want to share
• Are we on the right track?

Make sure to not stick 100 % to the agenda. Leave room for spontaneous things to happen.

4.One huddle moderator
The huddle moderator’s role is to encourage creativity and fun! This first time I suggest that you moderate the huddle.

Then, I suggest that you appoint a new huddle moderator before every new huddle.

Piece of advice
Do everything you can to make it informal and fun. People should feel safe and relaxed.

Think of it as an energy boost! And don’t forget the snacks :)

A bit awkward…
Remember that this might feel a bit awkward the first time. Don’t set too high expectations.

If you think this is a good idea, give it a couple of tries and then evaluate.

Let’s make the team huddle happen.
Send the invitation to your team right away! Happy to hear your reflections on how it went.

Stay in the loop,
