Execute
The art of becoming self-efficient.
Today is the first day of a personal challenge I decided to take. After years of trying really hard at design, studying it theoretically-wise, applying it as much as I can yet I never got the hand on how to draw the damn thing. I know my way around in photoshop and illustrator, I know how to do most of the basic stuff but when it comes to actually building a web design I’m better at directly using html/css than drawing it in any of adobe apps.
But why if I understand it can’t I do it? That’s the dirty question and the easy answer is because I never took the time to practice.
So today I created my dribble account, and I intend to upload something on it soon right here.
I also decided to work on a new thing called code-named Supermail. Basically it’s the email client of my dream, with a crazy new API that could open a lot of doors to productivity-driven people like me. But before I’ll have to get it done.
About getting things done, I’ve been reading a nice book about /uber-builder/ Drew Wilson entitled Execute. It’s been a great source of inspiration for building that thing I talked about and you should definitively go check it out.
The book is using an interview-form to explain how the guy is building apps from the ground up all by himself. The fact that the guy can build a design, an idea, a business plan, an api and a whole website in five days is completely insane. And all of that simply because the guy can do it all, no need for communication lag, no need to wait for anybody to do their work, he just does it.
I feel ready to take on the challenge, so wish me luck. That’ll be one great trick up my hat. It’s basically becoming self-efficient which would be a dream come true.
