What do you have on your radar? For which specific uncertain context? (e.g. a project, your career, your business etc)

This is the question that we gathered around last week, at the 3rd Personal Strategy community meet-up.

Radar as part of the Sense & Change model for Personal Strategy

Here are some of the key ideas and questions that we shared:

  • Asking: How do you align your personal & professional radar? How is this related to connecting your personal values and professional values?
  • Asking: How to be more strategic about what you work on?
  • This connected to a discussion about leverage points
  • Which further connected to discussing about the Radar and emergent strategy (I’ll probably be exploring emergent personal strategy a lot)
  • Which led to discussing the 3 Dimensions of Strategy, from Patterns of Strategy: Power, Fit & Time (will cover these in a future article soon)
  • Asking: Who do I want to become?
  • Asking: How is your personal strategy supported by your learning strategy?
  • Co-evolving with others around you: family, friends, colleagues, clients etc.
  • Picking the area of focus for development based on hints from the outside and what you feel inside
  • When it comes to paying attention to things on the Radar, people see in us what we cannot see ourselves, pay attention to this
  • Our attention is limited, pay attention to less things, but better. Book: Essentialism, the disciplined pursuit of less.
  • Principle for navigating a complex system: Start anywhere, follow it everywhere
  • Asking: What narratives do I have on my Radar?
  • “We’re all singing from the same song sheet, and we’re singing in different harmonies”

While I’m writing these ideas here, I’m becoming aware of how limited this short summary is, compared to the richness of the live discussions during our gatherings. Hope to see you live at the community talks soon!

Next time we’ll continue exploring the Radar area of the Sense & Change model, along with the question of ”How do you make sense of what’s on your radar?”

Enjoy the journey,
Bülent
