Austin Drive-Time Traffic

Elizabeth left the house this morning at 7:31am and traveled about five miles north up Manchaca Rd. and S. Lamar Blvd., exiting onto Cesar Chavez and arriving at the Austin Pets Alive medical clinic, 1156 W. Cesar Chavez St., at 7:55am.

Since she’s been retired almost ten years now, she drives less and less. We both ordinarily have the luxury of avoiding drive-time traffic and we take advantage of that fact. Consequently we were both wondering what her trip this morning was going to be like, but we certainly didn’t expect it to be so short a time and so painless as regards traffic.

This is the very commute I avoided the last ten years of my working life by riding my bike up and down S. 5th St. and Dawson Rd.. so I know it can be very congested and slow even in the summer when most pubic schools are closed. I am very puzzled by my wife’s experience this morning.
