Nurses’ Aide (TechXplore)

MIT has produced an AI to help nurses in a maternity ward with their scheduling. It comes up to speed by watching the nurses do their own scheduling, but it doesn’t just copy, nor does it take instruction. It uses a technique called “model-free learning,” meaning it basically figures things out for itself by watching.

Teaching Experience (Georgia Tech)

This article interviews Ashok Goel, a teacher of AI methods. He wants his students to (1) understand the basic concepts, (2) can use AI in their own work, and (3) “appreciate the majesty of their own intelligence” — because human intelligence is a very high bar.
