Dyrekassen has raised around $2.3M. We talk with Roger Holthe Olsen, its CEO.

PetaCrunch: How would you describe Dyrekassen in a single tweet?

Roger Holthe Olsen: Dyrekassen.no is an e-commerce pet store that offers everything you need for your cat or dog, easily ordered on your phone and delivered straight to your doorstep.

PC: How did it all start and why?

RHO: We saw a need in the market for a more convenient way of ordering products for pets. Especially we wanted to solve the pain of having to carry heavy bags of pet food back to the house when we ran out of food for our furry best friends. The solution was to build our own unique subscription model for pet food that allows our customers to easily order a new bag of pet food whenever and as often as they need it. We have specialised in home delivery to make the service as convenient as possible. Today we have evolved to become a thoroughbred e-commerce pet store with everything you need for your cat and dog. Today we can deliver all the way to the doorstep of every Norwegian household.

PC: What have you achieved so far?

RHO: So far we have expanded nationwide and have tens of thousands of customers all over Norway. All who reap the benefit of home delivery. Our revenue has grown rapidly from 8,2 MNOK in 2017 to 26,3 MNOK in 2018. For 2019 we are looking to nearly double our revenue from the year before, which will make us the leading e-commerce pet store in the country. We have ambitions however to be among the leading e-commerce players in our industry in the Nordics. In March 2019 Felleskjøpet Agri SA acquired 34 % of Dyrekassen.no, which gives us a Nordic position to build upon. We have also won several awards such as the Nordic Startup Award.

PC: How will you use your recent funding round?

RHO: The recent funding round will position us for strong growth in the Norwegian market and the early steps of international expansion. We have a lot to work on concerning product range and making our service and platform more customer centric. Parts of the funding round will be invested in growth, and part will be invested in the right people to handle the growth and further expansion plans.

PC: What do you plan to achieve in the next 2–3 years?

RHO: We aim to become a significant Nordic player in the e-commerce and retail industry. This includes both geographical expansion, product expansion and product innovation.
