SettleMint, start or speed up development of Blockchain Applications
SettleMint has raised €1.8M in total. We talk with its team.
PetaCrunch: How would you describe SettleMint in a single tweet?
SettleMint: Creating Blockchain business solutions just got a lot easier with our toolkit Mint, a distributed middleware, which any company or organisation can use to start or speed up development of Blockchain applications right away.
PC: How did it all start and why?
SM: Blockchain technology is considered to be one of the driving technologies behind the fourth industrial revolution, according to the World Economic Forum. Unfortunately, because this technology is relatively new, not that many companies or governments are familiar with this technology, nor on a business level or a technical level. At the same time, they do understand the potential of this technology, and they want to get started with it or integrate it in their existing infrastructure. We see that it takes most team approximately 12 months to get acquainted with Blockchain technology and build a very basis proof of concept.
SettleMint bridges the gap between companies and governments that are looking for business solutions with Blockchain technology and the added value of this technology. We have created a very easy to use toolkit, with different functionality clusters (creating assets or digital twins, registering/exchanging/tracking&tracing of assets, and if you want to implement digital voting, you can do that too), which make it possible to build a Blockchain based application in as little as 12 to 18 days. We are Blockchain agnostic: we work with Bitcoin, Ethereum, BigChain DB, Arabiachain, EWF, Multichain … This toolkit, or distributed middleware called Mint, is a licensed solution.
PC: What have you achieved so far?
SM: We work with companies, governments, NGOs in a broad range of sectors.
Here is a bit more info about the projects we have been working on:
- Carrefour Belgium: we are doing a similar and more extensive project for a Belgian retailer now, we can’t disclose more at this point, but we will soon; IBM did a similar project for Carrefour France, where chicken meat is being traced and traced, and the testing alone took 18 months. With our middleware, we were able to produce, test and deliver in under 3 months.
- VIA Don Bosco, endorsed by Minister Alexander De Croo and Philippe De Backer.
- Islamic Development Bank: distribution of subsidies to citizens
- ELIA
- Energy management
- Standard Chartered Bank: fractionalising of digital assets
The most impactful project we’ve been working on are the Indonesia Elections. This is the link to the platform.
PC: How will you use your recent funding round?
SM: We are hiring team members to further develop our distributed middleware and we are scaling internationally. We were appointed in total 3,4 million EUR by VLAIOand Horizon 2020 (EU) to support this grow.
PC: What do you plan to achieve in the next 2–3 years?
SM: We will continue facilitating companies and governments to start or continue working with Blockchain technology (if it’s the right technology to use), we will constantly add functionalities to our middleware and we will open offices in important regions. Currently we are based in Louvain (Belgium), Dubai (UAE), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Singapore and New Delhi (India) and we are continuously growing our international network of Value Added Resellers.
