PETCHAIN: Interview with Jesús López CEO of Petchain Foundation ENG/ESP

Today, we start a series of weekly interviews in which we are going to meet one by one all the Petchain’s team members, so we’ve started interviewing Jesús López, CEO at Petchain.

1. Tell us briefly something about you.

Well, I can tell you that on one hand, I am passionate about technology and, on the other hand, I am an animal lover, Petchain grew out of my two passions and a real need. I want to defend that any properly trained person can be the best friend of an animal and I would love to be able to offer you all the necessary information to achieve that social education.

2. How would you define PETCHAIN in 1 single sentence?

I could define Petchain as the platform that unifies all the information related to pets and makes it accessible whenever it is needed, improving medical treatments, emergency services and relationships between professionals and owners.

3. Why did you decide to take this trip?

After a long time seeing the existing deficiencies in the industry and suffering it in first person every time I go to a new veterinarian and he does not have any medical data from my colleagues. All this added to several close cases in which the lack of updated information ended up on fatal treatments and interventions for their pets. This led me to think of a way to ensure that all the medical and historical data of the animal belonged to the owner and that he always can access to them.

4. You have been working in PETCHAIN since the end of 2017, how do you combine your day-to-day with the project?

The truth is that I can’t believe we have been giving form to Petchain for a year, time passes very fast when you use it to do things that are really worthwhile. Reconciling the day to day with Petchain is hard, especially now that we are in the development phase, although with desire, motivation and a good schedule, I still have time to practice some hobbies.

5. How do you see the project or how would you like to see it within 5 years?

Well, within 5 years I would like Petchain to be a reference in our colleagues information management and achieve a massive adoption so that more and more people can benefit from the ecosystem of the future.

6. How do you differ from your competitors currently?

Currently, there are many options in the market to maintain updated information from our pets or to communicate with professionals but, all point to very specific niches so it is impossible to keep all the needs of the user in the same application. In Petchain, we want to unify all the resources and also guarantee the veracity of all the information using certifications issued by professionals.

7. Could you tell me any current situation where, thanks to the use of Petchain, you could check an improvement or a substantial change?

Many cases are coming to my head right now. For example, in case of an emergency, any veterinarian would be able to get access to the clinical history of the animal, its allergies and current treatments, greatly improving its diagnosis and treatment. The owner of a lost animal could also be immediately located by simply reading pet’s QR code with any mobile and automatically sending the location using the GPS of the device. Hoy estrenamos una serie de entrevistas semanales con las que iremos conociendo uno a uno a todos los miembros del equipo y queremos empezar entrevistando a Jesús López, CEO de Petchain.

1. Cuéntanos brevemente algo sobre ti.

Pues puedo contarte que por un lado soy un apasionado de la tecnología, y por otro un enamorado de los animales, Petchain surgió de mis dos pasiones y de una necesidad real. Defiendo que cualquier persona correctamente adiestrada puede ser el mejor amigo de un animal y me encantaría poder ofrecer toda la información necesaria para conseguir esa educación social.

2. ¿Cómo definirías PETCHAIN en 1 sola frase?

Podría definir Petchain como la plataforma que unifica toda la información relacionada con nuestras mascotas y la hace accesible siempre que se necesite, mejorando los tratamientos médicos, los servicios de urgencia y las relaciones entre profesionales y propietarios.

3. ¿Por qué decidiste emprender este viaje?

Después de mucho tiempo viendo las carencias existentes en la industria y sufriendo en primera persona cada vez que voy a un nuevo veterinario y no tienen ningún dato médico de mis compañeros. Todo ésto además de varios casos cercanos en los que la falta de información actualizada provocó tratamientos e intervenciones fatales para sus mascotas. Ésto me llevó a pensar en una forma para conseguir que todos los datos médicos e históricos del animal pertenecieran al propietario y que éste siempre tuviera acceso a ellos.

4. Lleváis trabajando en PETCHAIN desde finales del 2017, ¿ Cómo compaginas tu día a día con el proyecto?

La verdad es que parece mentira que llevemos 1 año dándole forma a Petchain, el tiempo pasa muy rápido cuando lo utilizas para hacer cosas que realmente valen la pena. Conciliar el día a día con Petchain es duro, sobretodo ahora que estamos en fase de desarrollo, aunque con ganas, motivación y una buena agenda, todavía me queda tiempo para practicar algún hobbie.

5. ¿Cómo ves el proyecto o como te gustaría verlo dentro de 5 años?

Pues dentro de 5 años me gustaría que Petchain fuera un referente en el manejo de datos e información de nuestros compañeros y conseguir una adopción masiva para que cada vez más gente pueda beneficiarse del ecosistema del futuro.

6. ¿En qué os diferenciáis de vuestros competidores actualmente?

Actualmente hay muchas opciones en el mercado para mantener un control de nuestras mascotas o para comunicar profesionales con usuarios, pero todas apuntan a nichos muy específicos por lo que es imposible mantener todas las necesidades del usuario en una misma aplicación. En Petchain queremos unificar todos los recursos y además garantizar la veracidad de toda la información utilizando certificaciones emitidas por profesionales.

7. ¿Podrías decirme alguna situación actual donde gracias a la utilización de Petchain se pudiera comprobar una mejora o un cambio sustancial?

Me vienen muchos casos a la cabeza ahora mismo. Por ejemplo en una urgencia, cualquier veterinario podrá acceder al historial del animal, sus alergias y tratamientos actuales mejorando en gran medida su diagnóstico y tratamiento. También se localizaría inmediatamente al propietario de un animal perdido simplemente leyendo su código con cualquier móvil y mandando automáticamente la posición utilizando el GPS del dispositivo.
