I’m sure that by now, you already have been inundated with posts, talks, and videos about AI, but besides it standing for Artificial intelligence, how much do you know about it?

Like many other professionals, I believe AI is here to stay and that it’s best to understand and jump on the train beforehand rather than being hit by it.

Additionally, even though at don Gata Studio, we provide work that is said to be at risk due to the rise of AI, we are firm believers that, just like with computers, AI will become an invaluable tool to our professions, and we need to embrace it.

We’re big supporters of using anything that can alleviate the burden of doing fastidious/unpleasant work that doesn’t require creative thinking, a strategic approach, or a collective mind. AI can take on those tasks for us.

In this post, we’ll dive into what AI is, what types exist, and a couple of suggestions on how to use it to improve, scale, and manage your pet business.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Though the conversation about AI has been permeating formal and informal channels in the last couple of years, according to IBM, it has been in the works for more than a decade.

The Artificial Intelligence tools we know and interact with presently were built based on learning algorithms, also called machine learning models, developed and improved by data scientists. Early tools of AI needed human intervention to upgrade and function outside of their initial purpose and weren’t autonomous.

Today, it doesn’t rely on traditional learning methods but rather on deep learning models. This approach functions more like a human brain since it can combine information, establish connections, and make decisions without constant input.

Does it substitute a human brain? No, but it allows machines to automate tasks, generate content, and predict some outcomes faster than humans can.

Types of Artificial Intelligence

There are three kinds of AI, but only one exists today. The other two are still theoretical models, and there isn’t a specific idea of when they will be ready. Especially considering that it took more than ten years to get us to where we are now, it may take another decade or two before we get there.

Narrow AI

Also designated as the Weak AI, it’s the first and only one that exists. These tools, trained to execute a single or narrow task, can’t perform outside that specific job. That’s why it’s considered narrow and a weak version of what it could be.

General AI and Super AI

Strong AI or Artificial General Intelligence doesn’t exist yet, and we don’t have a defined timeline. It will take previous learning experiences and skills — as we do — to take on different tasks with different scopes without the help of human input. In theory, this will allow General AI to perform intellectual tasks as humans do.

Lastly, Super AI would be even more advanced than the previous, being able to not only learn from the past to develop new and different tasks but also make judgments and surpass human intelligence.

It’s a scary scenario but also one that is hypothetical. Even if we get to a point where there’s a Super AI, it still wouldn’t be able to compete with humans on the major aspect of being a human — emotional intelligence.

For now, we will leave this to the sci-fi scary stories and focus on how you can take advantage of the current AI to level up your pet company.

Four Ways to use AI to Improve your pet business

Artificial Intelligence as a Content Helper

Producing content can be a struggle if you can rely on professional help. Though AI can’t replace a person who understands your business goals and connects with you on a personal level, using a tool like ChatGPT can help streamline ideas, test and iterate scenarios, and develop a quicker draft for a piece of content that your website, blog or social media profile may require. Just be aware that it is still up to you to verify facts, stay true to your brand’s personality and communication, and keep all content aligned.

Customer support

Chatbots and automatic responses aren’t new or groundbreaking for digital commerce. However, many businesses aren’t taking full advantage of AI.

While older chatbots used to follow a tight script and only reply in a machine-like manner, newer and more advanced tools can also predict, based on the user behavior, what questions and concerns that person might have and respond with different kinds of formality, having audiences’ characteristics in consideration.

Moreover, while traditional chatbots only allow for text-chat input, some AI developed for customer support can also analyze audio and produce effective text replies.

If you don’t have the time to do it or can’t afford to hire someone for this position, consider using an AI tool that can do the job.

Personalized shopping experience

How great is it when someone offers to help us decide or find a particular product in a store? Usually, it’s this experience that can help elevate (or break!) our experience as customers. And why not mimic the feeling online?

There are plenty of AI tools that help to convert your online shop into a fun and unique experience and guide new clients to their intended products. Forms, product recommendations, style analysis, and even virtual try-ons can boost your buyers’ impulse and desire to buy from you and, consequently, increase your sales volume.

Predictive analysis

This is yet another one of those cases where AI can help you or your marketing team to accelerate decisions, predictions, and outcomes. Based on shopping behavior, trends, and seasonality, you can boost certain products, reinforce product stock, or even consider creating new products with a higher demand. This kind of tool removes all guesswork and eliminates hours of research and analysis, allowing you and the people working with you to focus on the most vital task: how to exceed clients’ expectations and demands.

Conclusion

The unknown can be both scary and exciting, but AI isn’t going anywhere and most likely will become a prevalent tool in every company.

We hope that these few tips can boost your curiosity and willingness to learn more, and if you need a hand, you know where to find us.
