Not a sports fan, me
But grandgirls playing soccer
Piqued this grandma’s interest
Awakened Grandpa’s memories
Army-brat days in Europe
A once-favored futball club

A spark of fandom, perhaps
It’s time for something new
Shared hobby, cheering on
A soccer club, or maybe two?

NOTE:

Today my husband, also not a sports fan, signed up for a month of ESPN. We watched our first full professional soccer game — our own USL Championship team Phoenix Rising vs Rhode Island. Our first game, and Phoenix Rising is coming home from Rhode Island with the win, 3 to 1. He’s planning to get up early tomorrow to watch a match between his old favorite club, Bayern Munich, and Eintracht Frankfurt. (UPDATE: Bayern won 2 to 1! We’re on a winning streak! Beginner’s luck? Well, we aren’t betting or anything. Just cheering them on.)

Part of the reason this all started is that this last week was Spirit Week at the school where I work, and yesterday was Sports Team Day. Not being a sports fan, I didn’t have anything to wear, and rather than skip…
