A Lovely Bath!

Our heated bird bath is a magnet for many species of bird (we even had a visit from a Red Tailed Hawk once), but the Blue Jay was a first.

After the devastation among Crows and Blue Jays following a really bad outbreak of West Nile virus a few years ago, we are just beginning to see these birds again.

Our bird bath is visited by Robins, Finches, Sparrows, Blackbirds, Cardinals, Woodpeckers, Warblers, Chickadees just to mention a few, but until last week, we had never seen a Blue Jay in the bath.

It was pretty cautious in the initial approach. Landing on a high branch, then an intermediate branch, then the branch above the bath, and finally into the bath.

It took another minute for the bird to decide it was safe to take the plunge, and then, into the water!
