Beloved pet or grandson?

He stood his doggy ground between my grandson and I, and in his unique canine way, gave him the what-for. A tiny Grrrr was followed by back-off! all-out-barking. I was dismayed beyond words that my treasured grandson was on the receiving end of my beloved dog’s tirade. What in the crazy world of options do I do now? My heart sank.
