Lost Pet —Desperate Owner — Please Help — Reward!
Few things make me sadder than those pitiful hand-drawn posters pleading for help in finding a lost pet.
It tears at my heart to think of all the dreadful scenarios. A dog let loose from a backyard by naughty youngsters.
A cat stolen from a front sidewalk — an event that actually happened to a friend of mine — or a puppy who dug her way under the fence frightened by the sound of Four-of-July firecrackers.
Last week Michael walked into the East Memphis post office with little more on his mind than mailing a few items and buying some stamps.
He noticed a small, red foxish-looking dog pacing back and forth in front of the building’s entrance with a worried look. Michael assumed the little female was just waiting for her guardian to emerge from the building.
As he stood in line he mentally scolded whomever it was who took the risk of leaving a dog unleashed and unattended in a busy parking lot in the sweltering heat.
While scanning the room — trying to guess who the owner might be — Michael attempted to ignore the faintly ringing alarm bells in the back of his mind.
