Today we are thrilled to share that we are partnering with Ginkgo Bioworks, giving our companies the option to leverage Ginkgo’s decade of expertise and hundreds of millions of investment to bring their vision to reality much faster and with much less capital than ever before. True acceleration.

When we think of the founders we are building Petri to enable, it’s hard not to picture the team behind Ginkgo. They started with the mission to make biology easy to engineer. Armed with a vision and some guts, they ultimately created an incredible platform that has impacted chemicals, foods, agriculture, and medicine, and continues to bring the power of biology to new markets.

The next generation of great founders will share a similar story. They will be deep experts operating on the frontier of their field, energized with a mission and the burning need to realize it. However, whereas Ginkgo’s founders started more or less from scratch, the next generation will build on what came before them.

At Petri, this means building on the experience of our co-founding team, an unparalleled team of leaders that includes Ginkgo co-founder Reshma Shetty. But, what if it went beyond experience? What if Petri could kickstart a whole network of founders and companies that are collectively enabled by the platforms they individually create? And, what if instead of accelerating individual companies, we could accelerate a whole ecosystem?

Towards this vision, we are thrilled to begin our partnership with Ginkgo (also read Ginkgo’s announcement here). Together with their team, we’ll identify Petri companies that can build on Ginkgo’s platform to create new ingredients, cosmetics, medicines, and materials. These companies will be able to opt into a relationship that gives them access to Ginkgo’s world-class bioengineering team and Bioworks foundries. With the combination of our in house lab and Ginkgo’s team and platform, our founders can realize their vision faster than ever before.

If you’d like to work with us and Ginkgo Bioworks to bring your idea to life, please reach out.

If you have new ideas about how to accelerate the design-build-test cycles of biology through new software, instrumentation, automation, and other platform technologies; or if you are a founder with a vision at the frontier of biology and engineering and you want to impact important problems in any field, then reach out too.

You can find us here, and we’d love to meet you.
