Phat Contract. Hello There.
Phat Contact, an innovative programming model enabling off-chain computation, used to be known by the public under the name of Fat Contract.
Today, it is coming with a new image, representing Phala’s personality with the name Phat Contract and a logo in line with its technological image.
Why did we call it Fat Contract in the past?
Inspired by Joel Monegro, the first time people became aware that using “fat” or “thin” to describe protocols is appropriate was back in August 2016. In Fat Protocols, he pointed out that “The Internet stack, in terms of how value is distributed, is composed of ‘thin’ protocols and ‘fat’ applications…This relationship between protocols and applications is reversed in the blockchain application stack…It’s a stack with ‘fat’ protocols and ‘thin’ applications.”
As a common word, “fat” visualizes the complex concepts vividly in the technical field for those non-technical individuals. As an innovative programming model enabling Off-chain Computation, Phala Network adopts the “fat” to name its crucial product for this consideration.
Phat Contract Expresses Its Individuality
The Phala tech team is going to release Phat Contract officially.
Phala Network will keep developing and iterating Phat Contract to help projects among Dotsama and other ecosystems to build powerful next-generation applications by introducing the capability of off-chain compute and maximizing composability.
The debuting of Phat Contract is in the letter to the community in October 2021 — Embrace Web 3.0 Era with Metaverse. Phala’s Co-founder Marvin Tong officially announced the future plan of the product. Following this, the Phala team has published several articles, held workshops, Hackathons, and attended on/offline events worldwide to show what Phat Contract is, and how it will impact the development of the blockchain world.
Over the past 11 months, Phat Contract has iterated frequently, the concept became richer and clearer than the first time it appeared to the public.
As a completely independent product developed by the Phala team, we thought it was important to give the product a “personality”.
From “Fat” to “Phat”, by replacing the character “F”, “Phat Contract” sounds similar to the original name, furthermore, as well as referring to where it comes from, that is, Phala Network.
More News To Come
Phat Contract Beta version will soon be available. The Beta version is going to allow partners to create exclusive Clusters and deploy contracts after Council’s approval. However, access is not yet open for individual developers. Please stay tuned!
The official version will come out after the beta version is live and running stable. It will include major updates in the following areas.
- Layer-2 Tokenomics is going live, opening up a public good Cluster for individual developers to stake PHAs and deploy contracts.
- Phat Contract UI upgrade, supporting contract log display and Tokenomics corresponding developer collateral and other related functions.
