The Phala Privacy Pill: It’s Time to Cure Web 2.0
The Disease Lurking in Web2.0
Looking back at the growth of the internet from Web1.0 to Web2.0, we see a transition from one-way read-only activity to extensive two-way interaction. Anyone can post opinions, upload videos, and book hotels online. Exciting though this progress is, it’s moving towards enterprise opacity, data hegemony, dubious sources, and personal data leakage. In particular, privacy concerns have surged as people lose control of information about themselves — essentially losing control of their digital selves. “This is not the network we want!”
The internet has grown into an information jungle, but humans are still running naked through that jungle! Private companies compile and own information about our every move, yet that information is subject to public disclosure — for the profit of those private entities, or by accident, or even by malicious action. Unfortunately, whenever readable data exists in centralized servers, leaks can happen; even the biggest, most secure Internet giants are not immune. Enterprises shape the rules, users blindly transfer away their rights, and privacy is unwittingly bartered away.
The Antidote to Web2.0
As we enter the Web3.0 era, users hope to regain control over their own data: to control their own identity, to control their own intentions, and have real privacy, all so that the centralized structure can no longer dominate us as it does today.
Phala believes that personal data — a user’s assets and digital life — should be controlled and protected by the technology itself. To this end, Phala aims to provide security by combining a P2P network of trusted hardware running trusted open-source software, all mediated by a blockchain. Because there is no centralized authority or data controller, all computations being run on Phala are trustless. Acting as a bridge between users and the computing power, Phala’s blockchain ensures the order and security of transactions while never violating privacy or disclosing the data being processed — or even the processing, itself!
Web1.0 and Web2.0 have created bloated behemoths, but we believe these commercial leviathans will eventually be brought under control by the antidote: Web3.0.
We’re happy to announce that we have launched an NFT work based on Phala’s privacy ideals in collaboration with artist Daily Dose: the Phala Privacy Pill!
NFT Phala Privacy Pill: the Cure for What Ails The Web
The Phala Privacy Pill is a unique capsule embodying the concept of privacy, co-created by Daily Dose and Phala. Featuring Phala’s signature fluorescent yellow, it sports an animated dot-matrix glyph on the capsule shell and the unreadable pixel dots of the glyph preserved inside the capsule. We want to embolden users of the internet to take the privacy pill, regain control over their data, and heal the wounds of daily life in a Web 2.0 without privacy. Doctor Phala’s prescription: “take your privacy!”
Phala Network is a privacy-preserving computing cloud built on Substrate in the Polkadot ecosystem. We’re building the blockchain privacy industry and are believers in web3.0. Take the green pill and we’ll lead you down the rabbit hole to explore a world with privacy: the cure for what ails the web.
DAILY DOSE is a limited edition series of NFT art collectibles exploring the ideas of social media, the internet, and brand consumption. Verified on @rariblecom.

Phala Network tackles the issue of trust in the computation cloud.
This blockchain is a trustless computation platform that enables massive cloud processing without sacrificing data confidentiality. Built around TEE-based privacy technology already embedded into modern processors, Phala Network’s distributed computing cloud is versatile and confidential. By separating the consensus mechanism from computation, Phala ensures processing power is highly scalable. Together, this creates the infrastructure for a powerful, secure, and scalable trustless computing cloud.
As a member parachain of the Polkadot cross-chain ecosystem, Phala will be able to provide computing power to other blockchain applications while protecting the data layer, enabling possibilities like privacy-protected DeFi trading positions and transaction history, co-computing DID confidential data, developing light-node cross-chain bridges, and more.
On-chain services currently being developed on Phala Network include Web3 Analytics: high-performance smart contracts from Phala enable highly concurrent mass data analytics with privacy, paving the way for an alternative to Google Analytics that inherently respects individual confidentiality.
