Coming to a Chromium based browser near you, Ecto is our third separate wallet joining our dual blockchain Poltergeist and feature rich Phantom wallets. Bridging Chromium based browsers like Chrome and Brave with the Phantasma blockchain, Ecto is yet another step towards optimizing user experience and onboarding of new users and dApps.

Ecto — functional and connected

Featuring everything you need to safely manage your assets, the Ecto browser extension wallet enables you to shop and transfer assets without the need for a standalone wallet — similar to Ethereum’s MetaMask extension. Simply download and install the extension, keep your WIF handy to log in and you’re ready to roll. Initially available for Chromium based browsers such as Chrome and Brave, Ecto will also be available as an extension for other browsers at a later time.

Like a good Phantasma wallet should, Ecto enables transfers of both fungible tokens (SOUL, KCAL etc) and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). The initial release also enables users to both stake SOUL and claim your KCAL.

In addition to being able to browse your past 20 transactions, the fiat value of your wallet balances can be viewed in multiple currencies (EUR, USD, GBP etc).

Furthermore Ecto is fully compatible with our dApp connector Phantasma Link, meaning that users no longer need additional software or browser windows to buy, for example, a 22 Racing Series game license or go shopping on the current or the upcoming massively enhanced NFT marketplace. Simply launch your browser, unlock the wallet and off you go.

In short, Ecto delivers everything you need in a neat browser extension package!

Downloading and wallet modes

Ecto is available for download through the official Google Store. Ecto is fully open source and uses phantasma-js which is Phantasma’s own JavaScript library.

Users of Ecto will find two modes available;

  • “Watch” mode to monitor the contents of your wallet without moving assets. You can still make a transaction with this kind of wallet, but everytime you do so it will ask for your WIF (private key) given it has been imported in read only mode
  • WIF login & password — where you do not need to reenter your private key unless you actively log out, but you verify each transaction using your own chosen strong password for added security

No wallet is a “one size fits all”, which is why Phantasma aims to provide something for every taste to accommodate as wide a range of current and future users as possible. With the release of Ecto we further facilitate the increased usage of our current and coming dApps as well as improve overall ecosystem “plugability”.

Stay tuned for more,

The Phantasma Team
