The race to find the cure for COVID-19 is still on and large pharmaceuticals are doing their bit to create a vaccine that will fight against the dreaded virus. The invention of vaccines is the reason why millions of lives are saved every year. According to the World Health Organization, immunization prevents between 2 to 3 million deaths every year. Some diseases prevented by vaccines are tetanus, measles, influenza, and diphtheria. There are also vaccines that prevent over 20 life-threatening diseases.

Vaccines train and prepare the body’s natural defenses, which is its immune system, to enable it to recognize and fight off bacteria and viruses. When the body is then attacked by those diseases later, the body is able to effectively destroy them and thus, prevent illness.

COVID-19 pandemic is the major focus at this time, and as such, many pharmaceuticals are trying to find a vaccine for it. Two large pharmaceuticals, Pfizer and Moderna, are among the first to register some progress with their process. The candidates taking part in the clinical trials of these companies were said to have experienced intense side effects from the vaccines. Luckily, they also reported that the side effects didn’t last for more than a day.

There is still a lot of hope and fingers crossed that a vaccine and permanent cure for COVID-19 will be found. Till then, no clinical trial or recorded data has warranted being called a success.
