DA Krasner Statement on Case Involving Former Police Officer

PHILADELPHIA (May 17, 2021) — District Attorney Larry Krasner issued the following statement after a Municipal Court dismissed charges against former Philadelphia Police Officer Richard Paul Nicoletti (DOB: 5/16/1985), who was fired and arrested for allegedly assaulting protesters with pepper spray on I-676 last summer during racial injustice demonstrations:
“I fully intend to vigorously pursue charges in this matter. The people want and deserve justice and change, including police accountability, even though some institutional players are in denial. We will stay the course.”
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office is the largest prosecutor’s office in Pennsylvania, and one of the largest in the nation. It serves the more than 1.5 million residents of the City and County of Philadelphia, employing 600 lawyers, detectives, and support staff. The District Attorney’s Office is responsible for prosecution of approximately 40,000 criminal cases annually.
