PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 2, 2019) — District Attorney Larry Krasner issued the following statement on a U.S. District Judge’s ruling that a proposed harm reduction site does not violate federal law:
“The Safehouse decision is a legal and moral victory for good and caring neighbors who devote countless resources saving the lives of our children, parents, siblings, and friends. This ruling is also a resounding defeat for Donald Trump and his minions’ callous efforts to increase the suffering of people and communities struggling with addiction.
“From my work representing organizations such as Prevention Point during the height of fear around HIV and experience visiting harm reduction facilities, I know that public health-centered approaches can reduce quality-of-life crimes and make us all safer. May more of our local, state, and federal leaders have the compassion and courage necessary to truly center American policy and politics around saving lives and strengthening communities.”
