PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 21, 2019) — District Attorney Larry Krasner on Thursday announced that two law enforcement officers and one SEPTA employee have been arrested and charged following two separate criminal investigations.

Philadelphia Police Officer Charles Myers, who was tasked to the FBI Narcotics Task Force, has been charged with Perjury (F3), Tampering With Public Records or Information (F3), and Unsworn Falsification to Authorities stemming from a March 24, 2017, incident in which two people were searched and arrested at a gas station at 7000 Castor Avenue.

In sworn testimony provided in court on May 16, 2017, Officer Myers made statements regarding incidents leading to the arrests and narcotics and firearms charges that were eventually disproven by video evidence. The District Attorney’s Office (DAO) then withdrew the charges filed against the two defendants.

The two other arrests stem from a separate criminal investigation that was initiated when a female complainant alleged she was being stalked and harassed by Edward Williams, a SEPTA employee. The DAO Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has charged Williams with Unsworn Falsification to Authorities (M2) and Obstructing Administration of Law or Other Governmental Function (M2). The SIU also has charged Philadelphia Police Homicide Detective Nathanial Williams, a relative of Edward Williams, in the same incident.

Detective Williams has been charged with Tampering With Public Records or Information (F3), Unsworn Falsification to Authorities (M2), Tampering With or Fabricating Physical Evidence (M2), and Obstructing Administration of Law or Other Governmental Function (M2).

“It is never a good day when public employees are charged with breaking the law. And when public officials are alleged to have abused their power for personal advantage or gratification, it is insulting to the overwhelming majority of public employees who do their jobs with integrity and decency, and who in some cases put themselves in harm’s way to protect the rest of us,” District Attorney Krasner said. “My office will continue to investigate corruption and crime with neither fear nor favor.”

Information about criminal activity involving public officials or public employees may be reported to the DAO SIU hotline: 215–686–9608.
