For the Commonwealth: ADA Elizabeth Fischer

For the Commonwealth highlights the important work our prosecutors are doing to secure justice in specific cases brought by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. Today we highlight the work of ADA Elizabeth Fischer of our Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit.
Thanks to ADA Elizabeth Fischer of the office’s Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit for securing a sentence of 21 to 42 years in a case involving a defendant who repeatedly abused three teenage boys at a group home in Southwest Philadelphia. The victims, between the ages of 12 and 17, were assaulted on the way home from school and at their group home. ADA Fischer overcame the boys’ hesitation to talk about the issue and built trust with them by listening to what happened, respecting their reservations, and explaining that their healing would begin by telling their story. The three victims participated in the proceedings and their testimony became essential to the positive conviction. The defendant was sentenced to Institutional Sexual Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and related charges in a waiver trial by the Hon. Judge Glynnis Hill. The defendant will also have to register under Meghan’s Law.
