We couldn’t be more excited to launch Phi on Polygon Mumbai Testnet!

Phi is the first social metaverse focused on “on-chain Identity” created using ENS domains and proven wallet activity. It encourages users to interact with various Web3 protocols, which in turn provides positive feedback to the entire crypto ecosystem.

Earlier this year, we already launched and closed our first demo on StarkNet Goerli Testnet (previously live between March 22 and May 31), but the demo experience we are launching today is both more advanced and fun.

What did Phi launch?

Here’s the Phi demo link: https://mumbai.philand.xyz/

Today, we launched our second demo on Polygon Mumbai Testnet in order to gain meaningful user feedback.

The experience lets users generate their own personalized space using their ENS domain and allows users to claim in-game objects based on their wallet activity.

Using the objects, users can build their own Web3 world to show off their on-chain identity, interact with Web3 protocols, earn objects, and build their own worlds. Please watch the demo video below.

Also, check out “How to play Phi on Polygon Mumbai Testnet,” for a quick guide on how to play our demo!

Why did Phi launch on Testnet?

By launching Phi on testnet, we’ll have the opportunity to gain feedback directly from users in order to iterate thoughtfully on our product before our main net launch.

We also wanted to make Phi economically accessible to all of our users. We want to be a leader in opening up the Web3 experience to users of various sophistication levels. On testnet, users won’t have to spend a cent of their real money.

Currently, the barriers to entry in crypto for beginners are massive. From opening a bank account, to registering with a crypto exchange, KYC, purchasing crypto with fiat, and installing a crypto wallet — the list of potential user drop-off points is lengthy.

New users also have to be able to understand novel and unfamiliar concepts to be able to use most Web3 applications.

From long and confusing wallet addresses and transaction IDs, to yield farming, token wrapping, and DAO governance, the learning curve is challenging.

Phi has plans to deploy on Ethereum Mainnet, however by using the demo on Polygon testnet, users will first gain literacy so they can fully experience how fun using the full functionality of Phi can be.

As a product, Phi offers a more fun and familiar onboarding experience, along with gamified application mechanics, similar to SimCity, along with beautiful pixel art created by eBoy.

Our friend and contributor, Josh Litchman, has written a great article on the uniqueness of the experience that Phi offers, and we highly recommend you read it. (A huge thanks to Josh!)

Why did Phi begin with Polygon?

As you may know, we initially wanted to launch Phi on StarkNet. We still believe StarkNet to be a great platform and community. Its ecosystem is growing rapidly at the moment and includes many promising gaming projects such as Sup, Loot Realms, briq, the ninth, dope wars, among others. At Phi, we’d love to be able to interact with them as well. However, we have created a testnet product aimed at new and first-time Web3 users. Our primary goal is to provide the smoothest Web3 onboarding experience possible.

While the decision was difficult and required to weigh-in from all of our stakeholders, we collectively determined that Polygon was the most reasonable choice at this moment: Polygon is already being used by 2.7 million MAU, its NFT ecosystem is mature, and several Web3 social protocols such as the Lens Protocol have laid the groundwork for its use.

*Shoutout to Lens Protocol, we received a grant from them and have a great relationship with their team!

Therefore, we postponed the launch on StarkNet until next year or later, when it becomes a more clear next step for us.

Phi Roadmap

Since we started Phi as a just idea in January of this year, we have won two hackathons (NFTHACK2022 & BuildQuest) and had our first demo launch on Goerli Testnet.

Here’s the future roadmap that we’re building at Phi.

✅ January 2022 — Winning ENS prize at NFTHACK2022
✅ March 2022 — Winning IPFS/Filecoin & Covalent prize at BuildQuest
✅ March 2022 — Launching the 1st demo on StarkNet Goerli Testnet.
( we already closed our first demo)
✅ August 2022 — Launching our 2nd demo on Mumbai Testnet. 🥳
🔲 November 2022 — Launching Phi on Polygon Mainnet
🔲 December 2022~Q1 2023 — Something Big event for our early community

Give us feedback

Through the launch of this demo, we want to gain as much user feedback as possible so that we can get Phi in tip-top shape for the mainnet launch.
