The best word I can use to describe Friday’s Phillies home opener against the Nationals is….freezing! It was drizzly, raining and bone-chilling cold. I managed to brave the weather long enough to get some photos:

Aside from the usual fanfare, there were tributes to several people in the organization who passed recently, including Katy Feeney, Ruben Amaro Sr. and Dallas Green. Dallas’s wife Sylvia threw out the first pitch:

The game itself was pretty awful to start. The first two pitchers, Vince Velasquez and Joely Rodriguez, did not do well, give up 4 and 3 runs, respectively.

Our old pal, Jayson Werth, was not minding the pitching. Feeling right at home, he hit a home run off Rodriguez in the 5th inning.

The offense was basically non-existent until until very late in the game. The team did make a run and caught up to the Nats, but it was too little, too late. The Phillies lost 6–7. The good news is, the Phillies won the next two games, scoring 12 runs in the first inning on Saturday! So at least the won the series.

Check out the full Photo Album from the game.
