Hi, I am a blog post.
I contain a message within me that has been thought about and carefully written; I have then been published online, made accessible to anyone with a connection to the internet and my address has been shared using social media.
I love it here on the web, it is my home now and I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be. My purpose, the reason for which I exist, is to share my message with as many people as I can. The internet gives me this opportunity far greater than any other communication platform.
When I was younger I used to aspire to be a book. I thought that if I was a book then people could read and listen to my words, share me with their friends and I would have the ability to reach the masses. Books are expensive tho. You have to typeset them, print them and bind them. Don’t get me started on the postage and shipping, trust me I’m not good with confined spaces, that put me off right away.
I began to dispair. How can I share my words with people if i’m not a book. Then this internet thing began to gain some traction. Some man named Steve Jobs created an iPhone and suddenly everything was changing. People had access to the web wherever and whenever they wanted. Another person made something called Twitter and suddenly people were sharing content from all over the internet.
I thought about it, could this be the opportuinity I’ve been waiting for? Is this the way to reach people and share my message with them? There are so many people connected to the internet, billions in fact. A massive percentage of people use social media to share things they find interesting. Hashtags and Google make it easy to find what’s relevant to what you’re looking for. I began to dream, yes maybe this thing has potiential.
So I became a blog post, those dreams of being a book are now long gone. I have a home here now, I have an address. It begins with www. and ends with .com, the bit in the middle changes sometimes, but that address is how you got here. You either made your own way here by typing it into the navigation bar at the top of your screen, or you were brought here by clicking something someone posted on Twitter. Whatever the case, I’m glad we’ve met. You’re here now and you’re listening to what I have to say and that’s awesome.
The internet is amazing and although it has brought with it disruption in many business and service industries, never mind the massive cultural shift in how we communicate across the world, I think it has potiential.
I wonder, will we take the time to figure it out and use it for good or will we let this opportunity slip by and go to waste? I believe that's something that’s worth thinking about.
I am a blog post and you’ve listened to what I have to say, thank you.
