Are We Living in The Lost Decades?
How important they are in comparison to previous ones?
Introduction
I was born in 1994 and became an adult during the first two decades of the 21st century. As I studied history, watched movies, and read science fiction, I found myself questioning how the decades I was living in held significance in the history of humanity.
After comparing events from the 20th and 21st century I concluded there isn’t much importance in the previous decades. From a pacifist perspective, we are still tragically waging wars.
From a science fiction aficionado perspective, we are lacking ambition in our dreams and ideas.
Here I’ve compiled some reflections to help critically analyze these recent years without any nostalgia. On the contrary, my insights take a critical tone toward these decades and also to those that preceded it.
History is anxious for what?
Hegel revolutionized our understanding of how progress unfolds in history. He was alive when Napoleon plundered his city, killed his people, to which Hegel judged: “It is the spirit of history revealing itself.” As if that destruction was a necessary event that guided humanity…
