Charlie & Dipper

A little after 4pm I received this message from my wife, while I was at work.

Quickly, I gave Amy a call to see what was up.

Sometimes we put the birdies’ cage out back on the deck so they can get some outdoor air. Apparently one of the hinges on the cage door had come loose, leaving a hole large enough for the birds to climb through.

Dipper was there sitting on top of the cage, but Charlie had flown up into the tree in our backyard. Amy was able to grab Dipper and put him back inside, but by time she ran outside again Charlie was nowhere to be found.

I left work straight after and jumped on the bus home.

Walking up from the bus stop, I kept my eyes peeled and trained on the trees. I listened intently for Charlie’s distinctive squawk. Nothing.

We searched all afternoon. No luck.

In the morning we put fliers up around the neighbourhood and had another walk around the block.

But now our only hope is that fate guides him back home to us somehow.

This isn’t the first escapade that Charlie and Dipper have been on however. And even before Charlie and Dipper we had experienced the mysterious loss of Amy’s bird named Birdman.

Amy had raised Birdman right from when he was a little baby hatchling, and when he mysteriously disappeared from his cage without a trace, Amy was devastated. There was no sign of how he got out. Like a little Houdini he had simply disappeared.

A few months passed and it was time to move on. We adopted Charlie and Dipper from a couple who had both started working full time and they were worried they didn’t have time to give the birds enough attention.

Update:

A blue Quaker parrot was found in the suburb over from us, and there is a good chance that it might be Charlie. So I am going to stop telling this story and leave it for another day.

We will drive up to the rehoming centre tomorrow morning and see.

This could be a Christmas miracle after all.

Fingers crossed. Stay tuned…
