Technology has had an impact on all aspects of life, including education.

Pens, pencils, notebooks, teachers, the school are some of the things we typically associate with education. Is it not absurd to imagine that the mentioned associations could change drastically in the future as multiple consequences of technological development and possibly not even exist any longer?

Some of the world’s renowned professors have predicted that as life goes on, education will take on a form that is dissimilar to what it is at the moment. Technology will be at the forefront, all other things either destroyed absolutely or existing merely as by-products of technological intervention.

This notion entails the following: AI assuming the role of teachers, gadgets being exploited relentlessly instead of notebooks, and the equipment of stylus pens for writing instead of the usual pens or pencils.

It is quite evident that there is one thing that is acutely wrong with this idea of the future: AI replacing teachers as educational mentors for students.

First of all, AI does not possess empathy and the general state of what it is like to have feelings. So if it were to replace teachers, it would not be able to support its students emotionally. Encouraging pupils when they are going through tough times and praising them when they demonstrate improved performance are a few things that go a long way in education, none of which a mere automated machine would be competent enough to do.

Moreover, AI would only relay the information that has already been fed into its system and not think innovatively. So if a student were to inquire about something relatively unconventional, it would not have the ability to answer it using its intellectual capabilities as it would not own any.

Furthermore, the way a teacher conveys information also has a significant impact. They endeavour to render a lesson interesting and fun so that the students want to learn while AI cannot perform in such a way due to the monotonous instructions provided in its programming.

The stated thoughts reinforce how crucial the role of a teacher is in the life of a student. It demonstrates that the teacher is a determining factor of how a student will turn out in the future and that the behavior of the former directly impacts the personality of the latter.

Therefore, if we hope to design a world where our children are interested in learning, motivated to achieve their dreams, and have developed personalities, it is necessary to ensure that the thought of having humans as teachers is not threatened but thoroughly encouraged.
