Thank you for checking out the first PhoneMe blog update of 2019! Our team kicked off the new year with an awesome visit with the creative writing club at John Oliver Secondary School.

We were generously invited to join students for a poetry writing session by Stewart Francom and Alexandra MacLellan. Wendy Beamish kindly welcomed us on site, participated in our workshop, and shared an original poem as well. The students were warm and enthusiastic to give our poetry template a try and wrote a few lovely pieces that are posted on our PhoneMe Map. For a sneak peak, see one contributor’s handwritten work above.

The poetry written gorgeously captures several meaningful places and spaces dear to our poets, including the “velvet of the night,” “the warm prickling of sand,” and “a deep blue potion of water, salt, and mystery.” We were thrilled to witness their spoken word performances in person when they recorded their work at the conclusion of the session during our sharing time. Be sure to check out all of the recently posted pieces from our John Oliver visit:

  • “Untitled” by Stella
  • “The Quay” by Armaana
  • “Untitled” by Wendy
  • “NRT”” by our very own PhoneMe team member, Yuya!
