A haven amongst the madness. Bangalore, India

Bangalore is chaos. It is a place overwhelmed by traffic accompanied by a heavy smog and an honest love of horns. Crossing the road can take an hour. Famous for being the IT Capital of India aspects of it are almost flashy; the train station is positively organised. The Central Post Office is a grand 3 storied colonial building with a beautifully tended garden where you can pause to smell the roses as you mentally and emotionally prepare yourself to enter the bureaucratic madness of the Indian postal system.

However, you can find calmness amongst the chaos. One place is 1Shanthi Road. Appropriately named, 1Shanthi Road is an artist residency in Shanthi Nagar offering a haven for artists from all over the world to come and delve deep into the inconspicuous and almost unexpected creative scene that exists in Bangalore.

The kitchen window looks out on an empty lot of land which is currently inhabited by a family with children who occasionally swarm upon the residency.
Devi the creative genius behind the kitchen would cook lunches.
Artwork from previous residents can be found scattered amongst the collections of Suresh, the guardian of 1Shanthi Rd
