If you have ever been on the internet you’ve probably seen one of Brandon Woelfel’s images. He is widely adored by young photographers, like myself, who are in love with his style of photography. He differs from your average Ansel Adams or Annie Leibovitz who have developed their art into classics in the world of photography. Brandon himself is pretty new at photography and has developed a style that no one else has really shown before. He uses props and editing techniques to make his photos stand out in different ways than traditional photos do. The main characteristics of Brandon’s photography are low light, bokeh, post-processing, and props.

Brandon’s favorite time of day to shoot is at dusk and dawn. He has mastered the art of the nighttime shoot. He uses items around him like neon signs and lights to bring light into his photos. This is quite a feat because nighttime photography is complicated to do and have it turn into a good quality picture.

He also incorporates bokeh into most of his pictures. Bokeh is when lights in a photo are out of focus, creating circles of light all around the image. The picture above is a good example. You can see bokeh everywhere in the background which gives the picture more depth.

Most famous photographers only minorly edit their photos, or even shoot in film and leave them as they were originally. Brandon plans some of his shoots around how he’ll edit them. He adds flower petals and leaves to add more depth or he’ll add sparks to a flame or little details that make the picture look magical. He is a wizard with his photoshop skills and that’s one of the major reasons so many people adore his work.

Lastly, what Brandon is most known for, is props. He uses props that add more character to his work and the subjects within. Whether it’s glasses or a light up book, these props add a whimsical feeling that can’t help but draw you in for more. He also brings in a lot of color into his images through these props like neon signs and different colored/shaped lights.

Overall, if you were to sum up Brandon Woelfel’s style of photography in three words they would be props, color, and Photoshop. Brandon has effectively crafted a unique style that has inspired the minds of many young, bright photographers. These photographers will take these lessons they have learned from Brandon and change the future of photography into something truly beautiful.
