At Photochain, we follow the vision to give the control over imagery back to the artist — latest technologies such as blockchain enable us to create a fairer, easier, and more trustful ecosystem to trade digital art.

We are all about photography and the people behind it. Thus, we introduce a new series called “Photographer of the Week” where we will select one contributor within the Photochain Community to share their story about photography.

This week, we introduce Nazar from Ukraine:

This is Nazar’s story

Hi, my name is Nazar Doroshkevich. I’m 21 years old and from Ukraine. For me photography started when I bought a GoPro camera about two years ago. Ever since, I could not stop shooting the beautiful nature around me — right now I’m travelling the Ukrainian mountains with my friend to shoot new images.

I wouldn’t consider myself a professional photographer, although it is my main occupation at the moment and I spend a lot of time on it. My main subject is travel and drone photography. Especially drone photography is very interesting for me, as it is still a fairly new category which opens up completely new opportunities and is gaining popularity.

The most important thing I want to achieve with my art is to create atmospheric images that people enjoy looking at. I have always loved the beauty of nature — especially in my country — and like to share it with the world.

One photographer that I take a lot of inspiration from is “Borsch”. His drone photos look incredible and although he uses Photoshop in some of them, I really like his style.

Monetization of art

Most of the art I sell is in partnership with various companies that engage me to take specific photos for them. So far, I haven’t used any online platforms to directly sell my work. I’ve always considered using stock photography marketplaces but haven’t started doing so because I felt that the entrance barriers were quite high for me.

For me Social Media, in particular Instagram, are very important as they enable me to get exposure. I’m continuously working on growing my audience that loves my pictures. The more subscribers I have, the more opportunities I get to directly sell my work — and I’ve already received many requests via instagram enabling me to directly sell some of my images.

My take on Photochain

I was introduced to Photochain by a good friend of mine. After I had checked the website and studied the information, I really liked the idea. I’ve looked at many stock photography platforms, but this one drew my attention because of the new technology it uses. What I liked most about the concept was that I have a free choice of price for my images and that I would be able to keep up to 95% of the purchase price. Most photostocks do not provide such conditions.

I also like the fact that Photochain is just getting started with their platform. Being able to join this project early on is a great chance for me to reach a new audience and to get my work noticed by more people.

The biggest challenge I see is the usability of the platform. As a photographer, I don’t really like complex technology products and I prefer all relevant information to be presented in a simple way. I believe that Photochain is on a good track to achieve this and I look forward to expose my photos to a global audience.

Make sure to follow Nazar and Photochain on Instagram to see more great art from our contributors.
