I ended my drive near Bolinas, where the Coast Trail begins. The sun was setting, and I expected good things. I hiked quickly down the trail, eager to find some open space.

The fading light on layers of trees caught my eye; I took a few shots. I’m now astounded by the subtle colors captured by the P25. The depth and detail of the shadows are truly beautiful.

I hiked on; the sunset was uneventful. But as I rounded a corner, I looked up to the one of the biggest, brightest moons I’ve ever seen.

Tripod down, camera mounted, watching. I shot frame after frame, moved to a new spot, shot some more. Exposures got longer; hold 30 seconds, wait 30 seconds. Peaceful.

A family walked by, “did you get it?” she asked. “Let’s hope,” I replied. It was getting dark; I stayed past 9PM and the only light from was from that giant moon. On the way back I was certain I’d trip and ruin something.

In the parking lot I switched to the 150mm and captured the moon a little closer. The P25's dynamic range is amazing; the richness of the shadow tones is unlike anything I’m used to.

It’s otherwise darkness and I begin the drive home. Soon enough I’m back to Tiburon and the last meal in town.

I prefer photographs to stand on their own, without clever titles or descriptions that influence the viewer. These stories are the counterpoint; my memories of the time, and reflections on the result.
