Not a Selfie — A Self-Portrait it Is

Elfies! — I abhor them with extreme vehemence, particularly since the self-portrait adopted that new epithet.

In my past, particularly when I had my studio, I sometimes took my portrait. In most cases I faced a large mirror. This usually occurred on my birthday (my hospital one of August 31, 1942). My birth certificate states I was born on April 18 1943. In my native Argentina things happen.

This terrible year of 2020 I have all that time to think and I believe that I will soon write a blog referring to Samuel Johnson’s famous quote, “ 77 a time to be in earnest.” I am presently 77 and when I write that blog I will use the photograph you see here. I took it today, August 23, 2020 with my last box of Fuji Instant 3000 film.

One of my favourite aspects of the portrait is the one taken with intervals of time. The photograph that I accompany today’s self-portrait I took on August 31, 2006.

Today’s portrait was very difficult as I could not hang my heavy mirror on the wall. The studio is small and there is no window light that I could use to bring Pam’s portrait behind me to more light. But it will do.
