Where Waters Meet

The mouth of the river is a beach, called Apple’s Beach for a good reason: apples from orchards upstream came, in the past, all the way down to the sea, a perfect justification for the name!

This is a story about a place that is so full of stories it deserves more than the few images published here. In fact, I am trying to write some of those stories, meaning some new links may appear in this article from time to time. After all, this is a meeting place, and not just for waters.

Romans, Muslims, even Vikings, crossed these waters. The river, through which one could sail inland some kilometers, was so important that a watchtower was created on a promontory nearby, excavated today to offer a unique archaeological site, with multiple layers of intriguing vestiges from the past.

This page was created, also, to support two articles published at Pro Video Coalition, under the title B-Roll Explained to Photographers, Part I and B-Roll Explained to Photographers, Part II, in which I deal about the aspects of B-Roll video capture and how it works, in animated images, as a series of still images, to build a narrative. That explains why you’ll also find a short video here, under the title Where Waters Meet. To fully understand the video please go to ProVideo Coalition and read the article B-Roll Explained to Photographers, Part II.

I use the space here to show multiple images, all taken from a very similar perspective, shot at different times, so people understand the importance of going back to places and exploring alternatives. Some of the images are also the result of panoramas created by stitching multiple photos, something I appreciate and try to make easily accessible to photographers. For more info on panoramas, read my article “When In Doubt Create a Panorama”.

To see more images of Praia das Maçãs and the area around, and read about some of the stories connected to the place, check my story “Saving the Roman Roads”, one of the multiple links that will extend the coverage of that special place “where waters meet”.
