Phyzio: Making a way out of the contrived non-conventional medications for chronic pain
People are so preoccupied with the thought of instant relief from their pain that they do not want to spread their wings and leave their comfort zone, in order to perform some set of routine exercises. If physical exercise could be produced as a pill it could well be the new wonder drug. All of this seems exhilarating but that never ceases to sound implausible in every course of time and for now, we can only opt for better and better solutions. There are times when you become fearful, wondering if the pain will ever go away or if it is actually a symptom of another serious illness.
Over-the-counter pain reliever has been proven to be the panacea for muscle aches or a mild headache, for some years now. And this is when all the problems take the toll, this becomes the time when you start relying more and more on narcotic pain medication. When your pain is more severe, you consult your doctor after procrastinating it hundreds of times and finally get prescribed with painkillers and opioids, or as in some of the critically prolonged cases, surgeries are being performed too. When you’re recommended with something stronger like opioid and painkiller tablets, that only works well for acute severe pain.
Opioids and similar painkillers are not the permanent solutions for the chronic conditions, once you start consuming these sorts of pills and keep carrying it for a longer than expected interval of your life-time then your body becomes completely dependent on them, and has a major potential of turning it into an addiction or to some serious disease. They are used to treat moderate to severe pain that may not respond well to other pain medications by blocking the pain signals from the body through the spinal cord to the brain. Opioids attach to their receptors present on nerve cells present in the brain, spinal cord, gut, and other parts of the body which leads to the reduction in the sending of pain messages to the brain and curb feelings of pain. For the ones who are suffering from chronic pain, the intake of these sedatives must be depreciated in order to prevent some of the common side effects like;
- physical dependence
- hormonal dysfunction
- respiratory depression
Since pills can be prescribed for various medical conditions whereas the treatment choice for chronic pain includes recommendations like rest and inactivity, that does not mean that we should leave everything to the non-conventional approach. Rather we should always try to self-analyze things on our own level and make efforts for the same. Though the long-term use of contrived medications for chronic non-malignant pain remains controversial.
