It Sucks to Be Ghosted…
Please accept this apology
Have you ever been ghosted? Maybe, like me, you had never even heard the term ghosted or knew what it meant when you did. I just recently learned what ghosted means and was able to quickly identify the many times I have been ghosted — and also the times I have ghosted others.
Ghosted means when you have what seems like a meaningful contact, interaction, or relationship with someone, and then they stop communicating with you — drop you like a hot potato, offering no explanation. You’re left wondering what went wrong, how they could be so heartless, and maybe even blaming yourself.
It might be a college friend, a date, someone you met at church that you seemed to have bonded with, a co-worker, or an online friend. We’ve all experienced being ghosted and it feels kind of yucky.
And I’m here to apologize for ghosting you
All of you, at some point or another, made some type of connection with me and signed up to be on this email list. You may have joined the Simple Life~Simple Faith Facebook group, found an article on my website, or decided to follow me on Medium. And then stopped hearing from me. That feels a lot like being ghosted. And for that, I apologize.
No excuses, just the facts
2020 caught us all off guard, Covid entered my home and my husband has been what is now being referred to as a “Covid long-hauler”. Throughout his ongoing illness, in addition to being a caregiver to him, I’ve had to pick up more work, eventually returning to full-time work — something I was sure I’d never do again!
Life has a way of humbling or surprising us, doesn’t it?
One thing about life changes, though, they force you to reexamine what really matters. And that’s something I teach a lot about on my website and through my writing.
Prior to my husband’s illness and my return to full-time corporate work, I had my hand in several creative pursuits. God was kind to me and let me explore a lot. Once I started back to full-time work, I had to say no to a lot of things, simplify again, and let some things go in order to say yes to the things that really matter to me, the highest priorities in my life.
I’ve pared those down again and realized that taking care of my husband (he’s better but after 16 months post-Covid he’s still not able to return to work), providing for my family, and writing. In order to simplify our finances during this time, we moved out of our apartment and into an RV to travel while I work and write from the road — more on that later!
The purpose of this email to you is to say I am sorry for ghosting you and I hope you can understand. I understand if your original reason for signing up for these emails is no longer relevant and if you wish to part ways. No worries — I wish you the best in your pursuit of a simpler, calmer life.
My mission hasn’t changed:
God has called me to help others live simple, rest-based lives so they can have time for the things that matter. To help us all say Yes to less and No to stress. To encourage you to live life with open hands and open hearts until all that remains are the good things and the time to pursue an authentic life of faith.
If that’s still your goal too, then you’re in the right place and I look forward to moving ahead — out of the mire of 2020–21 — with you and into the light of new things that God is doing in us all.
One thing I can tell you is that the simple life is catching on. More women are learning to slow down, to embrace rest-based living, and are stepping out of the fast lane of Do-ing into a life of Be-ing. More women are learning to rest and abide in Jesus. He is our Sabbath, after all. We don’t do Sabbath, we live in Sabbath rest.
Life is full of distractions, some we fall for, and others — like Covid and other trials — we can’t ignore. But through it all, if we keep our eyes on Him, we can live from that place of rest and simplicity knowing that He truly is all we need. That simplifies everything, doesn’t it?
I look forward to getting back to regular communication with you

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for your grace. I’ll leave you with this quote from Catherine of Genoa:
When God finds a soul that rests in Him and is not easily moved, he operates within it in his own manner. That soul allows God to do things within it.
I pray that this email finds you at rest in Him today.
