Once Life Told Me…

A poem

I don’t know where life will lead me
As it pulls me by my hand
Never slowing for rocky plains,
My feet calloused, ingrained with sand
Always rushing through the flowers,
With a scarcely savored scent
And trudging ceaselessly forward
On a slow, steady ascent
Once I tripped and fell, I cut my knee
Life said, it’s not too far
I went limping on with bleeding legs,
Though I knew that they would scar
We reached a pretty meadow,

My knees gave way to rich relief
But then darkness fell, along with rain
My euphoria was cut brief
And I realized after falling more,
And pulling myself back,
Life is filled with highs and lows
To show your strengths, and where you lack
I was focused on the end,
Wanting to reach there well and soon,
When one night Life told me, stop
And then it pointed to the moon
I was impatient, and quite restless,
"And we resume our journey, when?"
I just wanted to arrive, but Life said quietly,
"What then?"
Sometimes Life just never waited,
Sometimes it stilled, and not a sound
And I really saw the beauty,
Not just in me, but all around
"There’s a balance," once it taught me
"Take your time," twice did it say
And slowly, I began to live my life
And cherish every day.
