Bad Business— Curse of the trump

Ivanka’s Fashion Faux pas

First daughter Ivanka, former model and current Presidential Advisor, knew there’s no such thing as TOO MUCH MONEY. She designed a fashion collection to add cash to her reported $300 million piggy bank.

Ta-da, the Invanka Trump Collection

Unfortunately. Ivanka’s Target market

is not enthused.

What’s a Princess to do?

Blame Kellyanne Conway and the Grab Your Wallet movement?

Websites and discount department stores were not in the original business plan. The chosen venues were Nordstrom’s, Bloomingdales, and other high end retailers.

Then these fine stores start dropping the Collection. [Reference Presidential Tweet #2134] Burlington Coat Factory steps back. Amazon, Overstock and promoting on her own site starts to look very appealing.

No matter, Ivanka Designs in Mumbai is doing well and both clothing lines remain profitable thanks to the children of China and Hong Kong. Blouses manufactured there cost about $6.

What’s a little discount when you’re profits 200-400%?

WHO wears her clothes?

Ivanka does. She’s designed a line of “work uniforms” for herself.

You are hard-pressed to find images of any other woman in her outfits. Ivanka is literally the Face (and body) of her Brand.

The clothes have the seasons’ cuts and colors but nothing stands out. Dresses and blouses with no pizzazz. Nordstrom cites low sales (AKA no profit) as their reason for ending contracts.

When it comes to special (international media coverage) occasions, Ivanka herself is seen out-and-about in Givenchy, Caroline Herrera, and Vera Wang.

Hmmm…

Meanwhile, look for Ivanka’s Collection in a discount store near you.

Is that an Ivanka dress hanging on the rack?
